celebrating moms

If you've spent any time watching the Olympics the past two weeks, you've probably seen one of these commercials.  Pup #4, who has become as avid sports (and I mean any sport) fan has cajoled me into watching some of the events with him.  I remember being a kid and thinking the Olympics were just so special.  It seemed like you had to wait... like... forever for them to come around and of course not watching was just un-American. But these were also the days when a space shuttle launch almost shut down a nation with wonder and anticipation and sweet, innocent children couldn't wait until Sunday night to watch "The Wonderful World of Disney" (and if you begged hard enough were really good, you got to watch "Wild Kingdom" too). It's been fun spending time with the pup and having conversations with him that I feel like I can contribute to (as opposed to anything with BioShock or Madden 10 as a lead-in).

These commercials are part of a series done by Proctor & Gamble.  I am not sure who the clever marketing person is, but he earned his pay with these.  They push all the right buttons and for me an unexpected one... They have made me miss my mother.  My mom wasn't the hockey mom type (or any other type) and it took me a long time to be okay with that.  But the truth is, she was my mom and that's the person she knew who to be. Lately, there's been a few times I've really missed her and it makes me wonder if that feeling will ever go away. It also makes me cherish my own pups a little more.

So, in celebration of moms everywhere, enjoy these videos. (Thanks P&G.)

  1. OH! I am so glad I am not the only one who sat weeping during these commercials! They were certainly effective!

  2. Hello!
I know this is a little off your topic, but I saw your comment on someone's muffin tin and just wanted to say, you're never too old for one! How about a movie night snack tin? M&M's, popcorn, chips, cheese & diced fruit...
Or a birthday desert with icecream in one tin, fruit, sauce, toppings in the others...

I didn't watch those commercials until after I wrote this, and as I am based in Europe I'd not seen these before. I'll have to call my mum across the sea and tell her I love her and miss her, and give my litlte ones an extra special hug!

  3. oh my gosh, what's wrong with me?! i sat there crying through those. i am so lame.

  4. ok. Is it me or do other moms out there get teary-eyed watching these commercials. I did enjoying seeing these commercials during the Olympic Games. Genius marketing if you ask me.

  5. I go back a little farther than that. I remember being allowed to stay up on Saturday nights to watch Gunsmoke and have root beer and pretzels.

  6. Dang, sitting at work with a tear. :-P

Random love is always welcomed...
