not by the hair on my chinny chin chin

He that hath a beard is more than a youth, and he that hath no beard is less than a man.
~William Shakespeare

I think facial hair is one of things either you like or you don't. This goes for both men and women. (And I am not referring to facial hair on women.  That is just wrong.) Rumor has it that the beard is back. Yay! I find it extremely sexy and think most men look better with at least a little hair on their faces. I am a proud supporter of facial hair in all it's forms and happily discuss it when I can. Though, when I talked about facial hair and manscaping, I ended up getting myself in some hot water with Countrymouse.  Of course, I've also talked about some of my favorite singers that also happen to sport epic beards. It's a common thread in many aspects of my life.

I've managed to instill my love of whiskers on my oldest pup. He's had different combinations of facial hair over his short tenure with the wiry stuff.  Recently, he had a play date with his razor when he decided that he needed a fresh face to welcome in the spring.

He actually thinks it will take him two months to grow back the Fu Manchu and is counting the days.  (That's one of those pesky life lessons... knowing when to say enough is enough.)

So in honor of all the facially furry men out there, I offer you the Beard Playlist.  Enjoy these songs with the bearded man of your dreams (or be the bearded man of some sweet girls dreams!)

The Beard Playlist

  • Devendra Banhart: This Beard is for Siobhan
  • Dollboy: Beard of Bees
  • Natalie Portman's Shaved Head: Beard Lust
  • Wilco: Bob Dylan's 49th Beard
  • Neil Halstead: Baby I Grew You a Beard
  • The Daredevil Christopher Wright: My Attempts to Grow a Beard
  • The Submarines: Fern Beard
  • Them, Roaringtwenties: Fast Acting Nite-Nite Spray with Realistic Uncle Beard

And one video by the great bearded one, William Fitzsimmons.
(FYI: It's a sweet, upbeat song, just in case you've watched some of his other videos I've posted.)

Pssst... did you see the guy to William's right with the handlebar mustache... very cool, indeed.

  2. I didn't see my husband's face for the first twenty years. Then he had to shave to get a protective gas mask on. I screamed. You could bury your thumb in his chin dimple up to the first knuckle. I had no idea. Seemed like something a girl should know. I promised to remember, and he grew it back.

  3. I'm not a huge facial hair kind of girl....I mean uh, not on me, but on guys. I do like stubble though. It looks hot and rugged!

  5. I don't mind facial hair if the guy grows it all in. The scruffy, unshaved look, though, looks just plain scratchy to me! SITS sent me by, and I'm glad they did...

    OK, Facebook, We're Friends Now...

  6. What a funny post! I'm glad you're such a strong facial hair supporter. I like my husband clean cut, but it makes me happy to know someone's out there rooting for the beard!

(I think I'm logged in under the wrong google account, but it's hard to be sure. So, just in case I submit this comment and you have no idea who I am, it's me, Emily. We met earlier on my blog, Discovering Flowers!)

  11. I tried to talk my husband into growing a porn-star-esque moustache for Movember, but he wouldn't do it. I thought it would be hilarious! Moustache, gold framed sunglasses - he would have looked awesome. He's such a party pooper.

  12. He that is more than a youth is not for me. He that is less than a man...I am not for him. Classic. My absolute favorite Shakespeare work.

That is the sweetest row of bearded chin pictures I've seen in ages. I am also a fan of the facial hair. The main squeeze threatens to shave his when he's not getting his way.

  14. Oh actually I love facial hair on guys as long as it looks good on them. I mean some men look better with it, you know and some of them look totally better without it. I tend to go for a man who has them though - I think it's sexy!!

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog - love your blog:) Please stay in touch!!

  19. I love how facial hair looks, but it hurts when hubby kisses me. I just don't think there is a way to reconcile the two.

  20. hahaha! I always get that way when I decide I need a new look for a haircut! Though I admit... I'm in the other camp on this one. Just can't get into facial hair on MOST guys. There are exceptions (besides Santa Claus)
