Earlier today I read a blog post in which the writer talked about her first favorite song. That made me think... what was mine? Apparently, I must have discovered the radio when I was about 10, give or take a bit. (And just a sidebar... we still listened to AM radio back then.) All the songs (cheesy as they are) that I can recall loving as a kid were from about that time. There was Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks, The Night Chicago Died and Billy Don't Be a Hero by Paper Lace, Hooked on a Feeling by Blue Swede and this song... The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack. Only the lovely Ms Flack has stood the test of time. I love this song as much today as I did then.
You can thank me later for not posting the Blue Swede video of Hooked on a Feeling with the wonderful "ooga chaka ooga chaka" background vocals and the lead singer dressed like a viking. (It was the 1970s after all.) But for kicks and giggles, you can see it here if you're curious.

Ah now there's an idea i get when i try to start a music meme on my blog. Thanks for dropping by... and a very happy SITS Tuesday to you... hope you have a great day :)
ReplyDeletewould you mind if i take ur title "tunes i like tuesday" as a tuesday meme name for my blog?
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of the old Oil of Olay commercial, but also of when they put my son on my belly for the first time and I looked into his eyes. It was a little bit out of body, KWIM. It was special with my daughter too, but there is nothing like that first moment with your first baby!
ReplyDeleteMy first favorite song was Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles. My uncle used to play it over and over again for me.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, I will definitely be clicking the ooga chakka link. That was one of my favorites back in the day. I played that 45 over and over and over and...
ReplyDeleteI love the other one too.
I love music. I like the way you interweave music into your posts. And thanks for kind words at my blog.
ReplyDeleteLove love love this song. What a great first love! I'm pretty sure mine was Don Henley's End of the Innocence (from 1989, I was 5 or so). And I still love it to this day.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that song! Thanks for posting it.
ReplyDeleteOver to say a massive thankyou for following my blog - it really made my day to see you up there - cheers! x
Mine was "She Loves You" by some British band.
ReplyDeleteI love Roberta's song. It has always been a favorite and the ooga chucka song is one of my favs, too. I love the sound and beat of that one.
ReplyDeleteMine was "playing with the queen of hearts" by Juice Newton. I'm sure my parents must have been listening to it. Still love that song.
